Raymond Red

Raymond Red is one of the pioneering figures of modern Filipino alternative cinema, and has the distinction of being the first and so far only Filipino to have won the prestigious Palme D’Or Award at the Cannes International Film Festival. He is also one of only two Filipinos listed in the Oxford History of World Cinema. Having an early background in visual arts and photography, he began by making numerous experimental and narrative short films in the 1980s. He soon successfully moved on to independent full-length feature films making the now classic films “Bayani” and “Sakay” amongst others. He also successfully broke into the television advertising industry in the 1990s and continues his unique brand of filmmaking in his commercials and features to this day.
